The new blog format makes it easier to get community information out.  Here’s one now:

The Bishop Timon Knights of Columbus Council in Jackson will be serving a Chicken and Dumpling / Kettle Beef Dinner with all the trimmings on Sunday the 13th of January.  Serving is from 11:00 to 2:00.  Cost is $9.00 for adults, Children 6 to 12 $4.00, 5 and under free.  The Chicken and Dumplings are made fresh Sunday morning and the Kettle Beef is cooked in a real cast iron kettle.  Our deceased brother Leonard “Slim” Beussink cooked a lot of beef in these kettles and now his son Tim is carrying on the tradition. Please forward this to all your E-Mail friends.

Supporter Spotlight – Horst Pharmacy

One of the many reasons that the Jackson Web has moved to a blog format was to offer more coverage for the supporters, our local businesses. This is the first post in a series to spotlight our supporters.

Horst Pharmacy
Your Compounding Specialist
“We solve medication problems”
www.horstpharmacy.com

Horst Pharmacy has been located in Jackson, Missouri for 31 years. Owner and pharmacist Steve Horst has been actively involved in the community for even longer. We love being in Jackson and really getting to know our customers. We see several Jackson business owners and employees in our shop every day and enjoy working with them knowing that dollars are being dispersed into our very own community.

Mission statement: Horst Pharmacy is dedicated to providing the very best care to its customers through exemplary, efficient services and the highest quality, most effective products.

We not only provide OTC and prescription medications, but we also provide a more specialized care called compounding. Compounding is the method of preparing medications to meet the unique needs of each patient and healthcare provider. It is achieved through an essential triad relationship–patient, prescriber, and pharmacist, and is regulated by state boards of pharmacy. The healthcare provider first prescribes the medication, then the pharmacist takes the necessary ingredients, compounds them and dispenses the medicine to the patient after a thorough consultation. This enables patients to receive the type of personalized care they deserve and allows us to provide superior, patient-oriented services.
Horst Pharmacy can change dosage forms and strengths; eliminate preservatives, dyes and fillers; change flavors; and prepare discontinued products to fit medication needs.

We are happy to provide this service to Jackson residents as well as counties all over Missouri.

Old McKendree Chapel

Welcome to the Old McKendree Chapel

A National Methodist Shrine
Situated on two pastoral acres in a grove of oak and maple trees, Old McKendree Chapel is regarded as the oldest Protestant church structure standing west of the Mississippi River.

With the thicket of trees providing a good shade and the spring at the base of the rise dispensing refreshing cold water to travelers, this peaceful setting was an ideal location for camp meetings. Mckendree Church was organized in July of 1809 following one of those meetings.

In 1819 skilled workmen built the chapel from huge poplar logs. The first services were held during 1819, and regular church services were held until around 1890. Since then, the chapel has been used for special service such as weddings, baptisms, reunions, and an annual Easter Sunrise Service.

The Chapel has been renovated to its present condition with funds from the District Board of Church Extension. The Chapel is listed in the National Archives of the Methodist Church and the National Register of Historic Places in the United States.

To visit the chapel, from Interstate 55 take exit 99. Turn west onto Highway 61, follow to County Road 307. Turn north, follow to County Road 206. Turn left, the entrance is on the right.
